Mountain bike France

Superb riding and vast mountain landscapes in the Vercors Regional Natural ParkRef CY27

The Vercors is the largest mountain range in the northern Pre-Alps. Majestic cliffs, deep gorges and countless caves strangely hide a green mountain landscape of vast open valleys, forests and pastures, perfect for mountain biking. A mountain plateau, surrounded on all sides by sheer rock faces, the Vercors often gives the impression of being suspended high above the rest of the world.

Day 1 : Villard de Lans - Tourtre

Itinerary start: Rendezvous with the organisation team is on day 1 at 9:30 am in Villard de Lans. On request we can book the previous night's accommodation for you and organise a transfer from Grenoble.

We leave Villard de Lans via its picturesque narrow streets, then begin the first climb of the day through the woods of Essanteaux. Our route takes us past several "lapiaz", faults carved in the limestone by erosion, used to explore the caves of the Vercors...
A superb 700 m descent leads us to the small hamlet of Tourtre, where we spend our first night in a guest house.

  • Distance covered: approx. 40 km
  • Altitude gain: 900 m.
Day 2: Tourtre - Lente

After joining Le Révoulat, our route follows a long flat portion through villages, forest glades and typical Vercors woodland. The descent to the Col de Carri is on forest tracks, used for cross-country skiing in winter. We then make our way into the Lente forest, then on to our hotel in the hamlet of Lente for the night.

  • Distance covered: approx. 40 km
  • Altitude gain: 1300 m.
Day 3 : Lente - St Agnan en Vercors

Through forests and small glades, we reach the natural limit of the Vercors, at Fond d'Urle. A few more pedal strokes take us to the top of a cliff overlooking the Diois, where the famous Clairette de Die sparkling wine is made. Now at the southern edge of the Vercors, a look in the opposite direction gives the impression of being in a completely different region: Alpine landscapes to the north, Provençal to the south... What a contrast! We then continue our journey northwards, passing through Vassieux-en-Vercors, where we discover the history of the village, and its important role in the Résistance movement. The crossing of the plateau to the Col du Souillet offers vast open landscapes, as well as a great sense of fulfilment. Follows a succession of flowing singletrack trails, with a superb final descent to Saint-Agnan-en-Vercors. Transfer to Villard de Lans.

  • Distance covered: approx. 35 km
  • Altitude gain: 1000 m.

Itinerary end: The trip ends in Villard de Lans at around 4pm on the last day. On request we can book the following night's accommodation and organise a transfer to Grenoble.

Distances and altitude gain are an indication only and may vary.
