The type of terrain encountered is a clever mix of roads and tracks, each with their own specific characteristics. On the road side, we select small, forgotten roads that are narrow and have very little traffic. The surface is uneven, sometimes gravelly (yes!), sometimes with potholes, sometimes smooth. On the track side, we test and select rolling tracks to ensure maximum enjoyment. We therefore avoid ‘mountain bike’ type tracks with large stones, ruts, steps, etc. From time to time, we may include a narrow path (single track) if it is smooth and not too steep. Roads account for 2/3 to ¾ of the route, tracks ¼ to 1/3 of the route. Of course, this proportion may be different in certain specific regions. For example, in Tuscany, where ‘strade bianche’ trails make up more than half of the route. We choose bucolic regions with beautiful landscapes, authentic villages and a strong identity. Itinerancy reigns supreme, in the form of crossings or loops, allowing you to enjoy all the variety of a region and the magic of cycling, which allows you to cover considerable distances in just a few days.
Our routes are designed for athletes, with options ranging from ‘not very athletic’ (level 1) to ‘very athletic’ (level 3). Pushing yourself beyond your limits and enjoying a challenge are inherent to gravel biking.
Passionate about touring and escaping into the great outdoors, the Vélorizons team has put together tailor-made gravel routes that we hope will provide you with thrilling and unforgettable experiences!
