Day 1 : Clermont Ferrand - Volvic - Laschamps

Itinerary start : Rendezvous with organization team is fixed on day 1 at 9.30 am at SNCF train station of Clermont Ferrand. On demand we can book for you one night in Clermont Ferrand for the previous day.

We start our trip through the paved lanes of Clermont Ferrand... Let's go to a first volcano! Then we climb the "rift" of the Puys mountain range, towards Volvic, the media capital of the Auvergne volcanoes (famous for its water). The day is devoted to the northern crossing of the Puys chain, via Puy de Nuger, the "Chopine " and the pass of Goules. Then comes the part with the very spectacular Puy de Come and its very technical "cheer" (old lava slide), Puy de Pariou, and Puy de Dome (1465m). The latter made legendary by the Tour de France. Last downhill to Laschamps village by the pass of Ceyssat.

Distance: approx. 45 km / altitude gain: approx. 1400 m

Day 2: Laschamps - Southern crossing of Puys chain - Laschamps

The giant Puy de Dome separates the chain into two sectors. Today we are exploring the volcanoes in the south. The both "Strombolians" La Vache and Lassolas offer to our eyes their craters letting escape the huge "cheire" (lava slide) Aydat from their mouth. They offer us dreamy single tracks towards the lakes Aydat and Cassiere, which are separated by the passage of a basalt flow. We continue on the westside of the Puy chain towards Laschamps passing by the Puys of Charmont, Vichatel, Montchal, Pourcharet, Mercoeur...! Night at Laschamps like the previous day.

Distance: approx. 60 km / altitude gain: approx. 1200 m

Day 3: Laschamps - Clermont-Ferrand

Last day: This time we take the west side of the Puys chain, which offers us new perspectives. The crossing of the lava flow of the Puy de Côme is technically demanding and spectacular. Our last ascent leads us up to the Col du Traversin (1124 m), which then offers us a descent with a difference of 800 m to the heart of Clermont-Ferrand - a fabulous finale through the forests of Villars! When we return to the cobbled streets of Clermont-Ferrand we can literally still smell the sulphur in our noses.

Distance: approx. 50 km / altitude gain : approx. 900 m

Itinerary end: The trip ends in Clermont Ferrand at 4pm. On demand we can book for you one supplementary night in Clermont Ferrand.

The given length (Km) and altitude difference (m) are given as reference and can slightly change depending on unpredictable local conditions

Day 2: Laschamps - Southern crossing of Puys chain - Murol

We leave the younger volcanoes of Auvergne to reach the old stratovolcano of Sancy by its eastern side, following the lava flows of Aurieres and Vernin. We soon reach the two "Strombolians" La Vache and Lassolas with their craters and the huge "cheire" (lava flow). On playful trails we reach the volcanic lakes of Aydat and Cassiere. After this playful section, the last ascent towards the crater lake of Servières and the glacial lake of Guéry awaits us. Overnight stay in a lodge in the Murol area.

Distance: approx. 55 km / altitude gain: approx. 1500 m

Day 3 : Mont Dore- Laschamps

After leaving Murol this morning, we start a first climb to warm up. We then set off on a magnificent descent towards Lake Aydat, with a beautiful view of the Puys chain. This is followed by a loop around Lake Aydat on fantastic singletrack. We continue in the direction of Lake Cassiére, which is separated from lake Aydat by a lava flow. At the end of the day we cross the balsalt river of the Puy de Mercoeur: these are really unique landscapes. Night in the same place as on day 1 in Laschamps.

Distance: approx. 50 km / altitude gain: approx. 1400 m

"Very good tracks, not too easy.
Scenery fantastic.
Would have been nice if good mtb’s for rent was possible - at the end we brought our own ones. "
